We study the behavior of children using engaging, age-appropriate activities. You can read about some of our previous studies in our newsletters: 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006.

We are currently running all of our studies at the Buckeye Language Network's Language Sciences Research Pod in the Labs in Life exhibit at COSI.

We are currently working on the following studies:
Iconicity in Sign Language
Dialect Development

Iconicity in Sign Language

Age range: 4 and 5-year-olds

This study is investigating whether there are some meanings in sign languages that actually look like what they mean -- that is, that are iconic. We're studying children because we want to know if people with relatively little experience with language and gesture can still "see" what's going on.

Dialect Development

Age range: 4 - 94 year olds

This is a whole series of studies that is funded by an OSU Center for Cognitive and Brain Sciences seed grant devoted to investigating how children and adults perceive, produce, categorize, discriminate, classify, judge, and otherwise acquire regional dialect information.
